Niagara Lane Chambers was established in 2020 and is home to some of Melbourne’s most talented and respected criminal defence barristers. What sets us apart is our location, building, philosophy, togetherness, associations, and commitment to justice.

We are located on one of Melbourne’s most quintessential laneways. Whilst the Chambers are a short stroll from the legal precinct, it is uniquely separated from it. The location is consistent with our fierce independence. When clients walk the cobblestoned lane to our front door, they know independence is at the heart of our legal representation.

The Chambers occupy part of the historic Mark’s Warehouses, designed by architect George De Lacy Evans, and built in 1887. The building is heritage listed and is to be contrasted from the modern office buildings that most Victorian barristers occupy. The bespoke fit-out is designed for our barristers to work both independently and collaboratively.

Our barristers are hand selected to join the Chambers. They are invited to do so based on their excellent work and impressive reputations. All our barristers share the same philosophy of holding law enforcement to account and defending human rights. We seek to do so through passionate and dedicated representation, whilst upholding the very highest standards in the execution of our professional duties to the Court.

Each of our barristers have unique individual talents and skills, which are shared more broadly within the Chambers. Our more experienced members mentor those less experienced. When any one of our number is briefed, our collective support is always available. We work and learn together by sharing our knowledge and expertise. We strive for continual improvement in our advocacy skills and command of the law.

Niagara Lane Chambers has established and maintains strong relationships with the best criminal and public law solicitors in Victoria and more broadly. Our barristers have interstate practices, and some have performed work internationally. We represent accused persons at trial and on appeal, whilst working closely with highly regarded and reputable solicitors.
